The data of deaths per COVID-19 per 100,000 inhabitants was taken from the portal of the Ministry of Health, you can get more details here about the data.

In relation to the pollution data these were obtained through the IBAMA report which represents the emission of carbon equivalent in 2020 per state. Regarding climate, despite a temporary reduction of emissions in 2020 due to the lock-down measures, overall in 2020, the Greenhouse Gases (GHG) increased around the world, so it’s important to say that we need to learn from this pandemic to keep a sustainable way of life going out home thinking about it.

Hackathon report

At this report there are some information about the situation of COVID-19 and climate for each state in Brazil with the objective of become easier to spread the context of our analysis throughout community from Hackathon about the COVID-19 impact for the SDG3 (Health & Well-Being) and SDG13 (Climate Action).

Based on literature, about 90% of countries suffered disruption of health services (UN, 2021). So the things related to the consequences of this health problem for several SDGs, emphasise that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the linkages between the most effected SDGs are intensified and their impact on other Goals is increased. That’s why we need to focus on action to keep getting a better world for all of us.

 

Here are some actions that we can learn from the global pandemic:

Correlated with SDG13

  • Temporary decline of CO2 emissions (cycling; reduce business travelling/air quality);
  • Home working/reduce of physical contacts;
  • Awareness raising for importance of ecosystems and responsible use of resources

 

Correlated with SDG3

  • Health problems contribute to the increased poverty (social programs);
  • Inability to work due to health effect economic conditions (subsistence allowance);
  • Health problems can increase inequalities (offer opportunities);
  • Global pandemic highlighted the need for global cooperation

 

Therefore as Mahatma Gandhi said “be the change that you wish to see in the world” through your own actions and spread awareness with your influence.
